Health Locus of Control and Compliance with Medical Regimen: a Study of Type 2 Diabetes Patients

The present study was conducted to examine the role of health locus of control and compliance to medical regimen in controlling and managing diabetes. Participants of the study were 200 diagnosed diabetic patients (Females=100, Males=100), out of which 100 had controlled diabetes and 100 had uncontrolled diabetes. Health Locus of control was measured by Wallston’s HLC scale and Compliance behaviour was measured by using an11 item four point likert type scale prepared for this purpose. The results indicated that those patients whose blood sugar level was under control, were significantly higher on internal health locus of control and were more compliant with medical regimen. Furthermore, females whose blood sugar level was under control, scored significantly higher than their male counterparts on compliance behaviour.
